MEDICAL MASSAGE THERAPY (MANUAL THERAPY)

Medical massage therapy is designed to strategically target medical conditions that are diagnosed by a physician. During your medical massage treatment, your licensed massage therapist will use different massage techniques and procedures.

Medical massage is based on results. A medical massage concentrates on a medical necessity in addition to stress reduction and relaxation. It’s frequently used to address different health issues, manage pain, lower inflammation, boost circulation, alleviate nerve compression, enhance flexibility, and promote digestion. On the other hand, traditional massage mainly focuses on relaxation and stress reduction without expanding into other medical areas for possible treatment.

There are many types of massage that your therapist may use, from deep tissue massage to trigger point therapy and even stretching techniques. Your doctor will write specific recommendations for your licensed massage therapist to follow and will monitor your treatment and recovery.

What Are Some of the Medical Massage Techniques?

Medical Massage will consist of many different therapy techniques. Some of these techniques are:

Deep Tissue Techniques – Our massage therapists will apply slow, firm pressure to release muscle tension, focusing on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and the protective layer around your muscles, bones, and joints, known as fascia.

Myofascial Lymphatic Drainage – There are many types of massage, but myofascial lymphatic drainage is a gentle approach that moves fluid around the body, removing toxins and waste.

Contract/Relax Technique – Sometimes referred to as isotonic stretching, medical professionals recommend this stretch that utilizes the body’s natural reflexes. The body reacts to the contraction of a muscle, allowing for a deeper, and more therapeutic stretch for the corresponding muscle, for example, the quadricep and hamstring.

Vacuum Cupping Technique – Cupping is all about increasing blood circulation to areas of the body, specifically where our medical massage therapists apply the cups. The suction used to remove air from the cup is mild, and the body responds by forming new connective tissue and creating new blood vessels.

Reasons your doctor might prescribe a medical massage include:

Treatment of musculoskeletal issues.
Physical therapy to build strength and flexibility.
Treatment of sports injuries, car accident injuries, muscle pains and cramps, migraines, and edema.

As a complement to psychotherapeutic programs.
